Sagehens Earn First SCIAC Victory With 3-0 Win Over La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team earned their first SCIAC win of the year with a 3-0 win over La Verne on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Charlotte Tapp who netted a brace in the win.  Kelsey Shintaku earned a goal and an assist as well while Eliana Prosnitz also added an assist. Naomi Meurice got the start and the win in goal while her and Taylor Kane combined for another team shutout with seven saves between the two keepers.

The Sagehens started quick in both halves to build their lead and struck first in the fourth minute of the match after Prosnitz played in Tapp behind the La Verne backline and Tapp beat the keeper on a one on one to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.  Pomona-Pitzer had plenty of attacking chances in the first half to double their advantage but some good saves by the La Verne keeper kept the advantage at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Another quick goal for the Sagehens with the second goal happening within the first five minutes of the second half. Tapp found the back of the net again but this time off of a corner from Shintaku with a first time shot over the keeper's head to make it 2-0.

It only took seven minutes for the Sagehens to strike again after Hannah Mandell broke free and after her shot was saved by the keeper, Shintaku came through on the follow up for the tap in to push the score to 3-0 in favor of the Sagehens.
