Sagehens Earn 21-4 Victory Over Occidental At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team defeated SCIAC opponent Occidental 21-4 on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 11-10 overall and stay perfect at 3-0 in SCIAC play so far this season.

The Sagehens were led by Mia Amberger and Lulu Gaither who each netted a hat-trick with a game-high three goals each in the win. Eight Sagehens had multi-goal games as Kaylee Stigar, Sydney Bianchi, Ayva Magna, Alexandra Szczerba, Namlhun Jachung, and Lauren Smith had two while Abigail Wiesenthal, Madison Lewis, and Brienz Lang had one. Zosia Amberger picked up the win against Oxy with seven saves and came away with two steals as well. 

Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time building a big lead over Occidental after they jumped out to a 9-0 start in the first. Gaither opend the first with back-to-back goals with a goal from Szczerba to follow that forced the tigers to take an early timeout.  The Sagehens ended the first with six more after Lang, Szczerba, Jachung, Wiesenthal and Bianchi all found the back of the net to take a huge lead into the second.

Occidental earned their first goal of the day to open the second and after a goal from Magna, the Tigers netted another to make it 10-2.  Stigar, Gaither and Smith netted goal late in the first half to give the Sagehens a 14-3 lead at halftime.

After building a double-digit lead in the first half, the Sagehens started to slow down on offense and netted three goals in the third and four in the fourth. Amberger, Magna, Smith, Lewis and Bianchi all found goals for themselves in the second half as the Sagehens cruised to a conference victory over Occidental at home.
