CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team capped off their perfect conference season with a 16-2 win on Senior Day against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman University on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens finish the year with a perfect conference record at 14-0 and end at 20-10 overall.
This is the first time since 2015 the Sagehens have gone perfect through the SCIAC regular season and have notched a new program record for conference wins in a single season at 14.
The Sagehen defense put on a show on Senior Day as they shutout the Panthers throughout the entire first half. Pomona-Pitzer got things going early on in the first after Castro scored the first goal of the day just 24 seconds in to give the Sagehens an early lead. Both seniors got on the board early as McCracken followed up to double the lead at 2-0 and Yu and Lewis ended the first with goals to push the lead to 4-0 at the end of the first.
The Sagehens kept on the attack as they scored nine unanswered goals in the first half. Castro notched her second of the game to open up the second quickly followed by Kahaulelio, who scored her first goal of the day to extend the lead to 6-0.
Yu and Rosenthal scored back-to-back goals followed by Bella Villa who ended the half with a goal under 1:30 to play to give the Sagehens a 9-0 lead heading into the half.
The Sagehens didn't slow down in the third period as they matched the second with five goals. Pomona-Pitzer got their lead up to 10-0 before the Panthers got on the board with 7:02 left in the third. Pomona-Pitzer scored four more times before the Panthers scored their second goal of the period to make the score 14-2 in favor of the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer notched tow more goals in the fourth from Kahaulelio and Crystal Huang as they completed their perfect conference season and will now await the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
