EAGLE ROCK, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team bounced back with a dominating 3-0 sweep against Occidental College on the road on Saturday night, winning 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18. Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong led the team with 12 kills and had one solo block with two block assists. Adrienne Tong had 39 assists and two service aces. The team collectively hit with a .257 kill percentage while holding the Tigers to .132.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the SCIAC.
The Sagehens outplayed the Tigers in the first set, limiting them to eight kills while scoring 18 of their 25 points off spikes. Although Occidental took an early 5-2 lead, the Sagehens reeled off a 5-0 run thanks to three kills from Isabel Kelly. The Sagehens never looked back, pulling a 4-1 run with an 18-14 lead. Ahead 24-18, Gaby Harrison sealed the set with a kill.
The second set played out similarly as the first set. After the Tigers took a 9-6 lead, the Sagehens battled back with a 4-0 run. After trailing 17-15, Pomona-Pitzer scored six unanswered points, including a pair of kills from Addo-Ashong and Chloe Kerstein. A block by Alexis Rudy sealed the second set.
The Tigers tried to keep it close in the second set, but halfway through, with the Sagehens leading 13-10, Pomona-Pitzer unleashed a 7-2 run, during which Addo-Ashong had two solo blocks and two kills. Ahead 21-12, the match was surely out of reach for the Tigers. Isabel Kelly capped the match with a kill to complete the sweep.
