Women's Volleyball: Isabel Kelly Lands 18 Kills in Caltech Loss

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team dropped a five-set thriller on Tuesday night, falling to Caltech 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 9-15). Isabel Kelly led the Sagehens' offense with 18 kills with two solo blocks and two block assists while Adrienne Tong delivered 43 assists. Lauren Asato made a season-high 30 digs to go with eight assists.

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 9-10 overall and 3-6 in the SCIAC.

The Sagehens battled closely with the Beavers in the opening set, but with the game tied at 21, the Sagehens broke out with three straight points capped by two kills from Alexis Rudy to lead 24-21. The Beavers tried to come back with two points, but Naomi Chen-Mallouk capped the set with a kill.

The second set was just as close, but fell in the Beavers' favor. Again tied at 21, Caltech broke out with a 4-1 run to tie the match. However, the Sagehens responded in the third set with a big win. Leading 19-18, Chen-Mallouk sparked a four-point run capped by two blocks from Kelly. With a 24-20 lead, Kelly finished the set with a kill.

The fourth set was a close affair, but the Beavers prevailed after going neck-to-neck for majority of the set. With the set tied at 22, the Beavers rallied for three to send it to the fifth set. In the final set, the Beavers found momentum, closing the match with a 5-0 run to win the match.
