
CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated non-conference opponent Amherst 7-2 on Monday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-4 overall.
The Sagehens got out to a good start in doubles taking two of the three matches against Amherst. Lauren Rha and Nina Ye of Pomona-Pitzer defeated Katja Viberg and Karolina Dobiecka of Amherst 8-1 in the first doubles match while Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey of Pomona-Pitzer defeated Amy Cui and Katie Hart of Amherst 8-3 in the second doubles match. The Mammoths got their sole win of doubles at the #3 spot Sophie Diop and Deliala Friedman of Amherst defeated Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson of Pomona-Pitzer 8-2 as the Sagehens took a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
In the singles matches, Pomona-Pitzer continued its strong performance, winning five out of six matches. Angie Zhou defeated Amy Cui of Amherst 6-1, 6-2 in the first singles match and Georgia Ryan defeated Sophie Diop of Amherst 6-2, 6-2 in the second singles match. Nina Ye suffered the only loss of singles for Pomona-Pitzer after she lost by a retirement up a set at the #3 singles spot.
Lauren Rha defeated Calista Sha of Amherst 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth singles match while Amelia Poor defeated Karolina Dobiecka of Amherst 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 at #5 and Marissa Markey earned. A win over Maddie Swire of Amherst 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth singles match.
