
CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated WASHU 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-4 overall.
In doubles competition, WASHU was able to secure one victory, with Eliana Hanna and Amber Edmonds defeating Nina Ye and Lauren Rha with a score of 8-4. However, Pomona-Pitzer was able to secure victories in the other two doubles matches. Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey defeated Katherine Johnston and Hallie Jeffers of WASHU 8-6, while Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson defeated Nina Moravek and Ainsley Heidbreder of WASHU with a score of 8-6 to put the Sagehens up 2-1 heading into singles play.
In the singles competition, Pomona-Pitzer dominated with five out of the six matches won. Angie Zhou defeated Eliana Hanna of WASHU in a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-0. Nina Moravek of WASHU was able to secure a win for her team, defeating Nina Ye 7-5, 6-1. In a close match, Georgia Ryan won against Sophia Huynh of WASHU in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Janie Marcus also won in three sets against Caorlyn Tsung of WASHU, with a final score of 6-1, 1-6, 7-6. Lauren Rha defeated Katherine Johnston of WASHU 6-2, 6-1, while Amelia Poor of Pomona-Pitzer secured the clinch with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Amber Edmonds of WASHU.
