CLAREMONT, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team competed in the 2019 ITA Fall Invitational this past weekend with matches at CMS and Pomona-Pitzer.
Maria Lyven made her way into the semifinals of the flight A bracket where she fell to Catherine Allen of CMS in a hard-fought loss of 6-3, 6-4.
In other action, Georgia Ryan ended her run of the singles tournament in the quarterfinals after she fell to Justine Leong 6-3, 6-2. Janie Marcus fell in the round of 32 for the singles bracket but ended up going the distance in the consolation bracket as she defeated Anna Kern 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (6) to win the consolation bracket. Rebecca Salaway won her first match in the round of 32 but was defeated in the round of 16 by Allen, 6-2, 6-0.
In Flight B, Patria Aziz fought her way into the semifinals where she fell to Lauren Yamagami, 6-1, 6-4. Melisha Dogra faced off against Aziz in the quarterfinals of Flight B but was retired due to an injury and Yurie Heard was knocked out in the round of 32 to Yamagami, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10).
In the doubles competition, Ryan and Salaway made it into the quarterfinals where they were defeated by the duo of Lee and Shea 8-5 and well as Heard and Lyven who also fell in the quarterfinals to Bryan-Ajania and Wolfe 8-4. Aziz and Dogra got into the round of 16 after winning their opening match but fell to Bahsoun and Tan, 8-0.
The Sagehens will next open up their spring season as they take on Whittier on February 8th at 9:00 a.m.
