WHITTIER, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team came out with a commanding 9-0 sweep over the Whittier College Poets on Friday afternoon. After sweeping through the doubles, the Hens went on to two-set victories in every singles match.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 12-6 record overall and are 5-1 in the SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer got off to a dominating start in doubles as Shivani Doraiswami and Jay Kim commanded their way to an 8-2 win in no. 3 doubles over Karissa Lee and Kiara Embrey. Later in no. 2 doubles, Caroline Casper and Emily Chen took an 8-3 victory over Kallysta Lopez and Maddie Schmidt-Perez. Maryann Zhao and Arianna Chen closed out the doubles round with an 8-4 victory over Kendall Yeung and Amanda Rodriguez in no. 1 doubles.
Later in the singles round, Kim made quick work over Lee with a pair of 6-0 sweeps in no. 6 singles. Her doubles partner, Doraiswami followed with another pair of 6-0 sweeps over Rodriguez in no. 2 singles. Emily Chen took down Lopez in no. 3 with 6-1 and 6-0 wins in no. 3 to clinch the match and Casper followed with a pair of 6-1 set wins in no. 1 singles over Yeung. In no. 4 singles, Arianna Chen battled a close first set with Embrey, winning 6-4, but followed with a 6-0 shutout to win the match. Olivia Mendoza played the no. 5 singles and won 6-1 and 6-3 over Schmidt-Perez to complete the sweep.
