Sagehens Swim to 9th Place Team Finish at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's swim and dive team performed well in the final session of the 2023 NCAA Swim and Dive Championships, advancing Alexandra Turvey (100 Free), Alex Gill (200 Breast), and the 400 Free relay team into the Championship Finals for tonight's evening session. The Sagehens performed well in each Championship Final, earning All-American honors in each event while finishing in ninth place as a team with 202.5 points.

Morning Prelims

On the final day of competition at the 2023 NCAA Championships, Alexandra Turvey started off the day with a 50.62 second performance in the 100 freestyle, earning her a spot in tonight's Championship Final. Turvey will enter the race as the No. 7 seed overall with her time from today but is no stranger to sub-50 performances as she holds the program record for Pomona-Pitzer with a time of 49.96 seconds. 

In the 200 breaststroke, Alex Gill earned herself another second swim in the Championship final, touching the wall in 2:15.73, the fifth fastest time on the day. Emmie Appl also competed in the event, swimming a 2:19.77 to take 18th place on the day. The 400 free relay team of Katie Gould, Alexandra Turvey, Haley Kirtland, and Alex Gill combined for a time of 3:25.92 to make their way into the Championship Final. 

Evening Finals

Alexandra Turvey earned yet another individual All-American honor as she finished in eighth place in the 100 free with a time of 50.91 seconds. In the 200 breaststroke Championship Final, Alex Gill also earned another individual All-American honor, finishing in fifth place with a time of 2:15.34. The Sagehens capped off the night with another All-American honor, this time in the 400 free relay with Katie Gould, Alexandra Turvey, Haley Kirtland, and Alex Gill dropping .92 seconds to earn sixth place with a time of 3:25.00.
