
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's swim and dive team showed well on Day One of the 2023 NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championships. After the first day of competition the Sagehens sit in 10th place as a team with 36.50 points.
Morning Prelims
In the 200 IM, Emmie Appl represented the Sagehens, swimming a time of 2:05.26. In the 50 free, Alex Turvey and Alex Gill both swam 23.42s in a tie for 11th, sending the pair to tonight's consolation final. Abby Smith also swam the event, touching the wall in 24.50 seconds. In the 200 medley relay, Abbey Liao, Alex Gill, Alexandra Turvey, and Katie Gould combined for a time of 1:43.27 to make their way into the evening session finals as the six seed to compete for the Title in the event.
Evening Finals
The Sagehens turned in strong performances in the 50 free and 200 medley relay with All-American performances in both events. In the 50 free, Alex Turvey finished third in the consolation final, 10th overall, with a time of 23.39 seconds while Alex Gill took 15th overall with a time of 23.56 seconds. In the 200 medley relay, Abbey Liao, Alex Gill, Alexandra Turvey, and Katie Gould combined for a time of 1:41.96 to finish in fifth place, earning First Team All-American honors.
