
CLAREMONT, Ca. - The No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team suffered a 14-6 defeat against the No. 7 Wesleyan (Conn.) Cardinals at home on Monday afternoon, their first loss of the 2023 season. Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. when they host Oneonta and Lake Forest for a doubleheader.
Wesleyan started the game strong scoring the first goal at the 11-minute mark. Pomona-Pitzer was quick to respond, with Sydney Landauer scoring the equalizer just four minutes later, assisted by Shoshi Henderson. Wesleyan regained the lead with another goal at the 4:30 mark, ending the first quarter with a narrow 2-1 lead.
In the second quarter, Wesleyan scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead over the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer managed to score a goal at the 4:36 mark, with Caroline Worthington scoring an unassisted goal. The Cardinals added on three more goals before the halftime break, taking a 9-2 lead. Pomona-Pitzer managed to score three goals in the third quarter, with Caroline Worthington, Sydney Landauer, and Grace Warner all scoring. The quarter ended with a score of 11-5 in favor of Wesleyan. In the final quarter, Wesleyan secured their victory with three insurance goals while Pomona-Pitzer managed to score one more goal, with Eloise Cherian finding the back of the net at the 6:48 mark, assisted by Sydney Landauer.
