
CLAREMONT, Ca. – The No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team defeated the No. 25 Haverford Fords in an 18-11 contest at home with Fiona Lewis and River Buechner leading the team in goals with four and three, respectively. Julianne Louie earned the victory in goal, recording three saves on the night. With the win, the Sagehens are no 5-0 on the season and host the CMS Athenas on Thursday, March 9th for the Sixth Street Rivalry.
The game started off with a goal by Hannah Gough just 19 seconds into the contest as Sydney Landauer earned the assist with a feed to Gough to put it away. This was quickly followed by a goal from Sydney Landauer, assisted by Shoshi Henderson, and then a third goal by Taylor Glanville, giving the Sagehens an early 3-0 lead. Haverford managed to get on the board with a goal off a free position shot, but Maggie Sweeney quickly responded with an unassisted goal. The half ended with Pomona-Pitzer leading 5-1, after Glanville scored her second goal with just five seconds left on the clock, assisted again by Henderson.
The second quarter started off with a goal by Haverford, but Ellie Kruse responded with a free position shot to put her team up 6-2. Fiona Lewis followed with a goal of her own off a free position shot, while Haverford scored twice to keep stay in the game with the Sagehens leading 7-4. Caroline Worthington scored an unassisted goal with just under two minutes left in the second quarter, sending Pomona-Pitzer into the halftime break with an 8-4 lead.
The third quarter was dominated by Pomona-Pitzer, who scored seven goals to Haverford's two. Fiona Lewis and River Beuchner each scored two unassisted goals while Sydney Landauer, Shoshi Henderson, and Eloise Cherian each contributed a goal. Pomona-Pitzer continued to score in the fourth quarter, with goals from River Buechner, Shoshi Henderson, and Fiona Lewis. Haverford managed to score three more goals but it wasn't enough to overcome Pomona-Pitzer's lead as the Sagehens earned the 18-11 victory on their home turf.
