Senior Thyra Herrmann Earns SCIAC Lacrosse Character Award

CLAREMONT, CA. – Pomona-Pitzer senior Thyra Herrmann earned the 2021 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Character Award as announced by the SCIAC.

Herrmann appeared in 24 career games as a Sagehen after having her junior season cut short and senior season wiped out due to the cancellations surrounding COVID-19.  She excelled as a midfielder for Pomona-Pitzer as she accumulated 19 points off of 13 goals and six assists.

"Herrmann exemplifies everything this award stands for. She has been a leader from the day she stepped onto our campus. Her firmness of character, indomitable spirit and resilience was a beacon of light at all times for our team. Thyra always brings a positive attitude and an amazing work ethic to everything she does. When she tore her ACL at the start of her freshman year, she immediately wrote me a text message to let me know that she would battle back, impressed how much the team meant to her and committed to being our strongest cheerleader on the sideline at all times. Thyra essentially became our third coach and our team often said that they couldn't always hear me or Brian yelling on the sideline, but they always heard her. Thyra always brought the ultimate henergy and celebrated her teammates successes as much or more than she ever celebrated her own," noted head coach Sarah Queener.

She will graduate at the top her class at Pitzer, with a degree in Environmental Policy (expected GPA 3.9). Her off field presence was also incredibly impressive. Some of her extracurriculars include Pitzer College Student Senate: Sustainability Representative; member of the Pomona-Pitzer SAAC; Director of Outreach and Development: Claremont Sustainability Consulting; sustainability consultant: Reformation; interviewer at Pitzer History and Archives Project; assistant in the Office of the Dean of Faculty; campaign intern: Orange Unified School District; field organizer and research fellow: tes on Prop 16; educator with the Leadership in Environmental Education Partnership (LEEP); club coach for Fuzion Lacrosse.
