Top-Seeded Redlands Pulls Away For Semifinal Win

Redlands, Calif. - Redlands used a 5-0 run late in the first half to break the game open and captured a 17-7 win over Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC semifinals on Saturday.

Junior Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md. - pictured) had four goals to lead the Sagehens, who see their season end with an 11-8 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the SCIAC. Redlands was led by four goals and two assists from Stephanie Garrett and three goals and two assists from KK McCaslin.

A high-scoring first half saw the Sagehens still within 8-5 with 9:58 left on a goal from freshman Sarah Markowitz (Pacific Palisades, Calif.). However, Redlands then rattled off five goals in a row over a span of 8:20 to take control. Garrett had two goals and an assist during the run, which she started by converting off a feed from McCaslin.

Crystal Painter scored with nine seconds left in the half to cap off the run and make the score 13-5, before London scored at the halftime buzzer to bring the Sagehens within 13-6 at the break.

The second half turned into a defensive struggle, as neither team scored until London tallied her fourth with 15:04 left to make the score 13-7. However, Redlands then finished off the game with four straight goals to make the final score 17-7.

Senior Emma Molloy (Basking Ridge, N.J.) had a goal and an assist in her final game with the Sagehens. She and goalie Casey Leek (Bucharest, Romania) will be the only players Pomona-Pitzer loses off of this year's team.
