
WHITNEY, TX. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Golf team came away with a first place finish at The Whitney on Sunday and Monday at White Bluff Golf Course.
Jessica Mason claimed the individual title after she led the way with a 151 for the two-round tournament. Mason started the tournament with a 79 after she had just two tough holes with a double at 2 and a triple at 11, but other than that, played wonderful for the rest of the tournament with two birdies back-to-back at 4 and 5 in day one and came back on day two with three birdies and 12 pars to end even on the day for her 151.
Katelyn Vo took third overall with a 159 after she shot an 81 in round one and a 78 in round two. Vo went through her first nine with a birdie at 8 to sit at +2 at the turn. She ran into some trouble in the back nine to take one par in her final six holes but still finished with an 81. Vo came back with a solid performance in round two. She still managed to sink one birdie at 7 but ended with 12 pars to shave four strokes off of her day one total with a 78 in day two.
Right behind Vo was Ottavia Lombardo who finished in fourth with a score of 160. Lombardo started her tournament with a round of 82 but came back strong with a 78 including back-to-back birdies at 7 and 8 for a top-five finish.
Ending the day for the Sagehens was Claire Whisenant who took sixth place overall with a combined score of 168. Whisenant birdied two holes at 5 and 15 in round one but ran into some trouble on the front to take an 86 into round two. She then rebounded with two birdies on the front nine in her second round to finish the day with an 82.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next compete in the Cal Lutheran Invitational on Monday, March 13th.
