
CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell to the La Verne Leopards 5-2 on Friday afternoon in a 10 inning battle. Kylie Lie and Emily Hurtado both led the team on offense as both hit solo home runs with Liu recording three hits on the day while Hurtado had two of her own. The Sagehens will be back in action against the Leopards with a road doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings with La Verne getting things going in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to take the 1-0 lead. The Sagehens answered in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from Emily Hurtado, tying the game at 1-1. In the top of the seventh inning, the Leopards managed to hit another RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. Pomona-Pitzer didn't have to wait long to find their equalizer as Kylie Liu hit a solo homer as the leadoff hitter, tying the game at 2-2. Amanda Robman hit a single through the left side and later advanced to second after Devin Waddell grounded out. Claire Sefkow flied out to center, keeping Robman at second. A pass ball would help Robman advance to third base but that would be her final stop as Lauren Ziment struck out swinging, sending the game into extras.
Both teams recorded two hits and left two on base in the eighth inning with the Sagehens seeing hits from Bella Carreon and Kylie Liu. In the tenth inning, the Leopards recorded three hits which included a two-RBI single. The Leopards also scored on a hit by pitch with bases loaded, taking a 5-2 lead over the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer only saw two batters as Addie Wasikonis reached on a fielder's choice before Bella Carreon grounded into a double play, ending the game 5-2 in favor of La Verne.
