CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team split in their double header with non-conference opponent Whitworth with a walk-off 6-5 win in game one and then a 12-4 loss in game two on Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: with the split, the Sagehens move to 2-1 on the year.
Pomona-Pitzer 6. Whitworth 5
The Pirates got on the board first in their first at-bats after a two-RBI double gave them a 2-0 lead, but the Sagehens came back with one run in the bottom half of the first as Katy Hurley brought home Izzy Deatherage to cut the deficit down to 2-1.
Whitworth came back and extended its lead in the fourth off of an RBI single to center to take a 3-1 lead, but the Sagehens came back once again in the bottom half of the inning with RBI's from Paige Blackwell and Taylor Lehner to tie the game at 3-3.
Another Pirate RBI came in the fifth while the Sagehens came back and tied the game for the third time in the bottom of the sixth with another RBI from Lehner to tie the game at 4-4.
After a few scoreless frames, Whitworth scored the go-ahead from in the top of the ninth with a double to center field, but the Sagehens came back in the bottom of the ninth and loaded the bases for Falkstrom who blasted a shot to deep center field and brought home two Sagehens to finish game one with a walk off.

The Sagehens were led by Zoey Joshlin who tallied the only multi-hit performance as she went 2-3 in the loss.
The Pirates got off to a good start on offense against the Sagehens as they plated four runs in the first to play from in front with a 4-0 lead. The Sagehens added two runs off of an error by the Pirate defense to cut their lead down to 4-2, but a two-run homer in the top of the third made up for those two runs as they extended the lead to 6-2. The Sagehens got back within striking distance after Julia Carreon brought home two runners with a single to center field but that was all the runs the Sagehens scored in game two.
Whitworth went on to score five runs in the fifth to break the game wide open and then one more in the sixth as they completed the eight-run rule against the Sagehens in game two.
