REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team split their double header with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands as they won game one 11-4 and lost game two 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Field of Dreams.
Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens move to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Emily Rockhill who went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Pomona-Pitzer had four others who tallied multi-hit games as Kristen Hong, Olivia Campion, Izzy Deatherage and Karina Falkstrom all went 2-4 in the win.
Alondra Reynoso got the ball in game one and put together an impressive performance as she went seven innings, surrendered four runs on 10 hits and struck out five batters to earn her second win of the year.
The Sagehens jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second after Deatherage connected for her second home run of the season to right center to put the Sagehens on top 1-0.
Pomona-Pitzer broke game one open in the third as they plated five runners in the inning. Campion got the run parade started with a single to center field followed by RBI's from Liz Rodarte Makensey Druckman and Falkstrom to extend the lead to 6-0.
Rodarte struck again in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly and the Sagehens plated two more in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Baleigh McCuskey and an RBI single from Hong to push the lead to 9-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Redlands finally got their offense going as they scored four in the bottom half of the fifth as they strung together a few RBI's to cut the lead down to 9-4 but the Sagehens added two more in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Druckman and an RBI double from Rockhill to take an 11-4 lead with one at-bat left for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs for a few runners on in the bottom of the seventh but Reynoso stayed solid and shut down Redlands in the innings to pick up the complete game win.
The Sagehens were led by Falkstrom who went perfect in game two as she went 3-3. Campion also tallied three hits with a 3-4 game to go along with a solo home run.
Rodarte struggled in the circle early on in the game as she gave up four runs on four hits in the first inning of the game but then settled down and only surrendered three more hits in the final six innings.
Redlands got ahead of the Sagehens in game two with a four spot in their first at-bats. The Bulldogs led off the game with a solo shot to left field and added two more on an RBI double and capped off the innings with a sacrifice fly to take a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
The Sagehens got one back in the second as Rockhill continued her hot day with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Druckman to cut the lead down to 4-1 and Rockhill scored the next run for the Sagehens in the fourth with another sac fly to cut the lead down to two at 4-2 in the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer tried to mount a late game comeback as Campion blasted a one out solo shot to left field to cut the lead down to 4-3 in the seventh but Redlands got the Sagehens to fly out to end the game to take game two of the double header.
