Men's Water Polo: Sagehens Outlast Kingsmen On Senior Day

CLAREMONT, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team ended their regular season with a 15-9 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 21-10 overall and 11-3 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Joseph Schafer who led the way with a hat-trick with three goals in the win.

Pomona-Pitzer opened up the first period with a goal by Riley Mangan but the Kingsmen answered with three-straight goals in the first to take a 3-1 lead. The Sagehens responded with one goal by Jacob Niskey to end the first period but trailed Cal Lutheran 3-2. 

The Sagehens opened and closed the second with goals by Adam Gross and Sam Sasaki while the Kingsmen netted one on a five-meter penalty as the two teams went into halftime tied at 4-4.

Pomona-Pitzer took over in the third as they exploded for six goals in the period while only surrendering one goal to Cal Lutheran. The Sagehens netted three-straight to open the third from Mangan, Schafer and Zach Senator and after a Kingsmen goal ended with three-straight from Noah Sasaki, Schafer and Alexander Peterson to take over the game with a 10-5 lead heading into the fourth.

Cal Lutheran got its offense going again as they netted four goals in the fourth but the Sagehens added five of their own as they held off the Kingsmen for a big win on Senior Day.
