Men's Water Polo Drops Two in Opening Day of SoCal Tournament

Malibu, Calif. - Pomona-Pitzer's men's water polo squad fell to powerful UCLA and host Pepperdine Saturday in the first day of the SoCal Tourney. UCLA defeated the Sagehens, 22-6, in the opening game of the day, and Pepperdine won, 15-7, in the mid-day game. Pomona-Pitzer plays two games Sunday at Loyola Marymount: an 8am contest against #13 Loyola Marymount and an early afternoon contest based on Sunday morning's outcomes. 

Against #1-ranked UCLA, the #16-ranked Pomona-Pitzer team fell behind, 10-2, after the first two quarters and couldn't close the gap. Sagehen goals were scored by James Baker (3), Adam Ward (pictured) (2), while Phillip Clayman added one. 

In the second game against #9 Pepperdine, the Waves held a slim 3-2 lead after one quarter, but added seven goals in the second quarter to lead, 10-3, at the half. Pomona-Pitzer's Baker scored three to lead the Sagehens, while Timmy Hardman added two, and Adam Ward and Clayman added one each.

Following this weekend's competition, Pomona-Pitzer will open SCIAC play Saturday, October 17 at Occidental in an 11:00am match.
