Sagehens Fall To Tenth-Ranked Loyola Marymount

Los Angeles, Calif. - The tenth-ranked Loyola Marymount Men's Water Polo team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 13-7 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon at Burns Aquatic Center.

The loss drops Pomona-Pitzer to 0-11 on the season, with seven losses coming to teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation (including two to No. 1 USC and one to No. 2 UCLA) and all 11 coming to teams ranked in the top 20. Loyola Marymount improves to 4-4 with its win.

Clayton Hardman (pictured - photo by Becky Gaut) and Ryan Higgins led the way for the Sagehens with two goals apiece.  Dylan O'Connell, Cody Moore and Mark Hudnall each added one.

Milutin Mitrovic scored three goals for the Lions in the first quarter to help stake them to an early 5-0 lead. Hudnall broke the drought for the Sagehens with 30 seconds left in the first quarter, and Higgins and Hardman each had goals to close out the first half and make the score 7-3 Loyola Marymount at the break.

Pomona-Pitzer got back as close as 9-5 on a Moore goal with 2:25 left in the third quarter, but Seth Coldren tallied for LMU and Joe Ferretti added another with just two seconds left in the third to make the score 11-5 and end any comeback hopes.

Austin Strong had five saves in goal for the Sagehens, while Tyler Hill had four. Kyle Testman had 14 saves in net for the Lions.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Oct. 3, when it opens SCIAC play with a home match against La Verne.
