CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track & Field Team made their 2019 debut at the Occidental Dual Meet, competing against runners and field athletes from Occidental College on Saturday afternoon. With a couple new events introduced at the meet, the Tigers prevailed at the meet, outscoring the Sagehens 69-57. The Sagehens took first place in seven events at the meet and saw thrower Warren Hosseinion break the meet record in the discus with the score of 38.67 meters.
"It was awesome get our season started today with our annual dual meet with Occidental," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "Today's meet was all about breaking off the rust and getting back into competition mode. It is always a fun meet to come to as we get to run a number of relays and events that are not typically contested at the collegiate level. This takes some pressure off and lets us just go have some fun in the first all our effort of the year."
Freshman Dylan Madden impressed in his collegiate debut, taking first in the 400 Meter Dash at 51.56 seconds, just .08 seconds faster than second-place Caldwell Biddle of Occidental. The Sagehens continued to show their traditional dominance in the distance race, winning the 4x1600 Relay as Oliver Chang, Edmund Havener, Joe Hesse-Withbroe, and Liam Jones took first at 18:12.69.
In the jumping events, Evan Johnson won the High Jump with a mark of 1.73 meters while Elliot Raskin tied for first with teammate Nick Kapule in the Pole Vault at 4.25m. Ethan Hardacre took first in the Triple Jump at 12.38m and the Long Jump at 6.23m.
In addition to winning the Discus Hosseinion also took second in the Shot Put at 11.50m and Hammer Throw at 30.08m.
Up Next: The Sagehens will compete again next Saturday as they make their home debut at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All Comers on February 16 at 10:30 a.m.
