
CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to non-conference opponent Babson 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-6 overall.
The Sagehens fell behind early after they dropped two of the three doubles matches to start the day. In the #1 doubles match, Anderson and Utrilla defeated Matthew Feng and Eshaan Lumba 8-2. Brooks Green and Wesley Zhang of Babson College defeated Mukund Madabhushi and Kush Patel 8-6 but Neil Chulani and Ethan Lee salvaged a point for Pomona-Pitzer as they won their doubles match against Conlin and Weisman of Babson College 8-4.
After falling behind 2-1 heading into singles, the Sagehens struggled to get any momentum going in the solo matches.
Pomona-Pitzer fell at #1 singles after Brooks Green of Babson College won a hard-fought singles match against Mukund Madabhushi 5-71 6-1, 6-2. Brady Anderson of Babson College won a three-set thriller against Kush Patel Anderson won the first set in a tiebreak 7-6, lost the second set 3-6, but rallied in the third set to win 6-4.
Luis Utrilla of Babson College also won a three-set match against Ethan Lee 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Kian Yazdi of Babson College defeated Eshaan Lumba of Pomona-Pitzer in a closely contested match, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Matthew Feng of Pomona-Pitzer was the only player on his team to win a singles match, defeating Maxwell Conlin of Babson College 6-3, 6-0 while Jason Weisman of Babson College won his singles match against Neil Chulani 6-3, 6-1.
