REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swim & Dive Team had a stellar debut to the 2019-20 season with four individuals taking the top-five at the Bulldog Pentathlon hosted by University of Redlands. The scoring of a Pentathalon is measured by the combined times of the 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Freestyle, and 100 Individual Medley. Senior Liam O'Shea finished first overall with a total time of 4:29.51, including first place finishes in the 100 Fly at 52.19 and 100 IM at 53.66.
Sophomore Jason Lu placed second in the pentathlon with a total time of 4:29.73. He finished first in the 100 Backstroke at 52.66 and third in the 100 Breast at 1:00.87. Anzo DeGuilio impressed in his collegiate debut as the freshman placed fourth at 4:37.33. He took second place in the 100 Breaststroke at 1:00.60, just 0.09 seconds behind teammate Dylan Hou, and second in the 100 Freestyle at 47.53. Senior Will Abele placed fifth at 4:35.22 after taking third in the 100 Butterfly at 53.03 and in the 100 Backstroke at 55.12.
The Sagehens saw four other swimmers finish within the top-10 at the Pentathlon, with freshman Tag Curwen placing sixth at 4:40.54, including a fourth-place finish in the 100 Backstroke at 55.34. Junior Coleton Brubaker took seventh at 4:41.74 thanks to his fifth-place finish in the 100 Butterfly at 53.34. Riley Kinlaw ended in eighth at 4:42.18 with his best finish coming in the 100 Breaststroke at seventh with a time of 1:02.77. Dylan Hou finished in ninth at 4:43.06 and took first in the 100 Breaststroke at 1:00.51. He also placed seventh in the 100 Freestyle at 48.49.
