THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 1-0 on Wednesday night at Rolland Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had difficulties getting production on the offensive end of the field as they were outshot by the Kingsmen 17-5 and failed to get a shot on goal. Junior Bryan Diangson ended up getting the loss despite having eight saves on the night.
The Kingsmen and Sagehens played a tight 90 minutes of soccer in a game which appeared to be heading to overtime, but Cal Lutheran came away with a shocking goal from 30 yards out after a clearance by the Sagehens lead to a one-time strike that found the upper 90 of the goal to give the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute.
Pomona-Pitzer spent the final nine minutes of the match searching for a scoring opportunity, but Cal Lutheran was able to fight off the Sagehens' attack and hold on for the win.
