CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent No. 16 Redlands 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Farquhar Field.
Season impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 7-7-2 overall and 6-5-2 in SCIAC play this season.
The Sagehens were shutout for just the third time during conference play with two of the three games on the road.
Senior Ben Mitchell tallied seven saves in the loss for the Sagehens while just allowing the one goal.
The Bulldogs scored the only goal of the game early on in the 14th minute of the match as Sergio Valencia scored an unassisted goal as he took a deep shot from outside the box and found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Redlands was able to play from in front early which forced the Sagehens to try to find an equalizer. Pomona-Pitzer took five shots in the first half with two of them on frame but couldn't even the score as Redlands held a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Sagehens attempted to get back into the game in the second half but the Redlands' defense stayed strong as Pomona-Pitzer failed to find an equalizer in their 1-0 loss on the road.
