Men's Soccer: Beavers Shut Out As Hens Triumph 5-0

PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer Team put on a goal-scoring clinic against Caltech on Saturday afternoon in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match, defeating the Beavers on the road 5-0. It was the fifth shutout by the Sagehens this season.

Season Impact: The victory gives the Sagehens a 7-6-2 record overall and 6-4-2 in the SCIAC, putting them in fourth in the SCIAC. The Beavers are 1-15 overall and 0-13 in conference play.

Peter Rentzepis earned a brace, scoring two goals and earning one assist while Taylor Reifert added one goal and two assists. The Sagehens controlled the match from beginning to end, outshooting the Beavers 37 to 2 and earning 20 corner kicks while the Beavers had only three.

The Sagehens had no trouble finding the net early in the game as Aidan Ferrer put his team on the board in the 11th minute. Rentzepis delivered a long ball to the racing Ferrer near the box, who then took a shot past the rushing keeper to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute and a half later, Reifert doubled the lead after finding the loose ball and taking a shot with open space.

In the 26th minute, Ethan Flor earned his third goal of the season, scoring off a header into the far post from a corner kick delivered by Reifert to make it 3-0. Bjorn Sigurdsson almost made 4-0 when he connected on a header in the box, but his shot went off the crossbar.

Rentzepis opened the second half with a quick goal, scoring off a corner kick from Reifert just 38 seconds after the whistle to extend the lead 4-0. Just four minutes after scoring his first goal, Rentzepis made it 5-0 for the Sagehens. Aidan Ferrer slipped a through ball to Rentzepis who then took a shot from 18 yards out. The ball bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal. It was Rentzepis' seventh goal of the season.

Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will head over to the University of Redlands on Wednesday, October 25 to take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
