Men's Soccer: Sagehens Fall To Whittier 1-0

CLAREMONT, CA. –The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier College 1-0 on Wednesday night at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 4-3-2 overall and 3-3-2 in SCIAC play while Whittier improves to 3-6 overall and 3-5 in SCIAC play this season.

The Sagehens found themselves in a little bit of trouble early on as they quickly fell behind to the Poets early on in the first half. Whittier came out and found a goal in just the second minute of play as Connor Tait-Mole played a cross from Ibrahim Abou Hashish and found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

After gaining an early lead, the Poets parked the bus and prevented the Sagehens from getting any good looks at the goal in the first half as the Poets went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

With Whittier packing in the box on defense, the Sagehens had to work to find good scoring chances in the second half. The Sagehens totaled 10 shots in the game and had chances on six corners but could not find an equalizer.

Pomona-Pitzer had a good chance late off of a free kick that deflected off of the shoulder of a defender but the Whittier goalkeeper was able to make the save as the Poets upset the Sagehens at home.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host CMS in the second leg of the Sixth Street Rivalry on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m.
