ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team drew with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Chapman 1-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 1-0-1 on the year and open up SCIAC play with a 0-0-1 record while Chapman drops to 0-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by junior Aidan Ferrer who scored the only goal of the day for Pomona-Pitzer and has found the back of the net in each of his first two games this season. Senior Ethan Flor picked up his first assist of the season.
The Panthers were led by Ryan Onart who had one goal and Rhey Gill who assisted Onart on the goal.
Pomona-Pitzer and Chapman both had chances in the first half but a well-played defensive first half kept the score at 0-0 at halftime.
The Sagehens wasted no time jumping out to an early lead after halftime as they found the back of the net in the first 17 seconds of the half. Ferrer notched the first goal of the half as he took a cross from Flor and put the ball in the lower right side of the goal to put the Sagehens up 1-0.
Pomona-Pitzer's lead was short lived as Chapman came back and responded with a goal of their own as Onart flicked a ball that dribbled past a diving Ben Mitchel to tie the match at 1-1 in the 48th minute.
The Panthers outshot Pomona-Pitzer 9-2 in the second half but the Sagehen defense stayed strong to close out regulation to send the game into overtime.
The defenses stayed strong in overtime and limited both teams to few chances as the Panthers and Sagehens opened up their SCIAC seasons with a draw.
