CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball walked away with an 88-63 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) La Verne on Wednesday night at the Tents.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve 10-2 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens also have now won their 10th straight game.
The Sagehens were led by senior Micah Elan who led the team with 19 points in the win. Senior Adam Rees added 17 points to their total and junior Alex Preston chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
The Sagehens shot over 50% from the floor at 55.4% while holding the Leopards to just 37.9% from the field. Pomona-Pitzer controlled the paint and outscored La Verne 58-28 down low and outrebounded the Leopards 50-24.
The Sagehens got going early and often in the first half as they started the game off with an 8-2 lead. The Sagehens never gave up the lead to the Leopards throughout the entire game and never had La Verne even tie. Although the Leopards never took the lead, La Verne stayed with the Sagehens in the first half and kept it close for the first 20 minutes. Pomona-Pitzer expanded its lead to over 10 points for the first time just before halftime and went into the locker room with a 35-23 lead.
The Sagehens took off in the second half as they outscored La Verne 53-40 in the final 20 minutes of the game. Rees led the second half surge with 15 points in the second half alone. Pomona-Pitzer quickly extended the lead to 15 points early on after a Rees and-one made it 45-30 with 17 minutes left to play.
The Sagehens continued to roll in the second half and took their largest lead of the game at 30 points with 3:22 left to go after a pair of Stephen Blomstrom free throws. The Sagehens rode their large lead to the end of the game and glided to their 10th straight win and stayed undefeated in SCIAC play.
