LA MIRADA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Biola 66-62 on Thursday night.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens open up the season 0-2 overall.
The Sagehens were led by junior Alex Preston who tallied 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Senior Micah Elan netted 10 points while senior Jack Boyle and sophomore Matthew Eberle each had nine.
Pomona-Pitzer had some early offensive woes in the first half that aided Biola in jumping out to an early lead. The Sagehens did not convert their first points in the game until three minutes in and after Biola had already taken a 7-0 lead.
The Sagehen shot just 24% from the field in the first half and turned the ball over 12 times as they found themselves down to points at 20-10 midway through the first. Pomona-Pitzer cut into the lead and got it within four points at 22-18 with four minutes before halftime, but Biola tacked on a few more point to end the half and led 29-21 at the break.
Another slow start to the half allowed Biola to extend its lead to 41-27 with 12:55 remaining. Although the Sagehens shot much better from the floor in the second half as they scored 20 more points and shot nearly 20% higher, Biola kept its distance from the Sagehens.
The Sagehens cut the lead down to six points with 30 seconds remaining but couldn't get within striking distance as they fell on the road to Biola.
