CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team returned after the holiday season and defeated Emerson 96-54 on Friday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
The 42-point victory is the largest margin of victory this season for the Sagehens and the largest in the past five years.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-5 overall this season while Emerson drops down to 4-7.
The Sagehens were led by freshman Micah Elan who tallied a career-high 24 points. Sophomore Corbin Koch notched a season-high 21 points and five rebounds. Also having a career night was freshman Jack Boyle who scored a career-high 13 points off the bench.
The Lions were led by Geoffrey Gray who scored a team-high 13 points in the loss.
Pomona-Pitzer came out and jumped out to a 15-4 lead with some good three-point shooting right out of the gate.
The Sagehens extended their lead to 31-16 after a Rosenbaum three pointer that forced Emerson to take a timeout with 5:54 left in the half.
The first half ended on a flurry of three-pointers by Elan as the freshman connected on three three-point field goals in just four possessions as the Sagehens went into the half with a 43-25 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half and continued their dominant offensive performance by way of the three-pointer. The Sagehens shot 52.4% from the field and an incredible 60% (18-30) from beyond the arc. The Pomona-Pitzer defense held the Lions to just 35.8% from the field and just 23.8% from three-point territory.
Pomona-Pitzer tallied its most points in a single game since the team scored 110 in 2011 against American Sports.
