Sagehens End Weekend With 16-4 Win Over Whitman

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team came away with the 16-4 win over non-conference opponent Whitman on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens move to 8-7 overall.

The Sagehens were led by Nate Jakobs who went 4-5 with three runs scored and three RBI's. Caleb Millikan and David Bedrosian had three hits each in the win while JC Ng, Jackson Fleming, and Isaac Kim also had multi-hit games with two apiece. Ben Cohen and Landon Carter came in for relief roles with no runs given up by the Sagehens' bullpen.

The Sagehens have only scored in the first inning in just two games this season but found some offense in the bottom of the first against the Blues as Jakobs laced a two-run homer to right center to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead.

The Blues got in the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to cut the Sagehens' lead down to one at 2-1, but Bedrosian cleared the bases in the bottom of the fourth with three RBI's on the double to extend the lead to 5-1. The Sagehens added another later in the inning after William Kinney singled home Bedrosian to make it 6-1.

Pomona-Pitzer loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fifth and plated two more after Fleming singled home Donovan Crook and Bedrosian struck again with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-1.

The Blues showed some life in the top of the sixth after a three-run homer cut into the lead at 8-4, but the Sagehens responded with a blast of their own after Ng went deep over the right field fence to add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-4. The Sagehens added two more in the inning after Millikan and Bedosian registered RBI singles to take a 13-4 lead after the sixth.

The Sagehens finished off their big scoring day with three more in the bottom of the seventh after Ng doubled home a run, Jakobs with a sac fly and Fleming with an RBI double to put a stamp on a big bounce back performance by Pomona-Pitzer at home.
