
LA MIRADA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team dropped game one of their Sixth Street Rivalry series with CMS 11-6 on Friday afternoon at Biola Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Donovan Crook and Nate Jakobs who each went 2-4 in the loss. JC Ng went 1-4 but managed to drive in three and a run scored while Isaac Kim, Caleb Millikan, and William Kinney all earned hits as well. Jake Hilton got the start and the loss for the Sagehens after he went just three giving up seven runs with three strikeouts. Ethan Collins and Weston Janavs came in for relief roles as well.
Hilton got into trouble early on after a two-run homer in the first got CMS out to a good start to open the series. The Stags added three more in the bottom of the second inning until the Sagehens put a three-spot on the board with one swing from Ng to make it 5-3 after three innings of play.
CMS continued to add runs via the long ball with another two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-3.
The Sagehens responded with a two-RBI single from Kim but CMS added one run in the fifth and seventh inning to take a 9-5 lead with two innings to play.
Jakobs came back with a solo shot in the top of the eighth to give the Sagehens a little bit of life, but CMS hit their third homer of the game in the bottom half of the eighth to make it 11-6 and put the comeback out of reach to take game one of the series.
Up Next: The Sagehens will host the Stags on Saturday to finish off the series with a doubleheader at Alumni Field starting at 11:00 a.m.
