ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell in their SCIAC doubleheader to Chapman by the scores of 3-2 and 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park.
Season Impact: With the losses, the Sagehens fall to 17-18 overall and 7-17 in SCIAC play.
Chapman 3, Pomona-Pitzer 2
Pomona-Pitzer got a quality start out of sophomore Ryan Long who went six inning and scattered six hits with two earned runs. Long was scoreless through the first five inning before the Sagehens got on the board first in the top of the fifth as junior Jack Hanley grounded out to bring in a run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers responded with one in the bottom of the fifth and then took the lead after another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-1 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer tied the game back up in the top of the seventh off of an RBI from Patterson-Kohout, but Chapman scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 3-2 lead into the ninth.
The Sagehens had a chance in the ninth as they loaded the bases but couldn't get the tying run home as the Panthers held on for a win in game one.
Chapman 6, Pomona-Pitzer 5
The Sagehens were led by Stone who went 2-3 in the loss. Patterson-Kohout also had a multi-hit game as he went 2-5 with two RBIs.
Pomona-Pitzer got ahead early on in game two as first-year Kevin Lo doubled home a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens scored two more in the third as Patterson-Kohout and Quezada notched RBIs to extend the lead to 3-0. The Sagehens went ahead and plated one run in the fifth and one in the sixth with RBIs from Patterson-Kohout and first-year Jack Damelio to take a 5-0 lead over Chapman heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Panthers got their offense going late in the game as they got three runs back in the sixth after back-to-back RBIs cut the lead down to 5-3. Chapman had another three-run inning in their next at-bats and after a two-run double, the Panthers held a 6-5 lead over the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer had offense early on in the game but could not put any more runs on the board late in the game as they come up just short against the Panthers.
