Sagehens Earn All-Staff Win Over Pacific Lutheran

Claremont, Calif. - Jake Bruml (pictured) was 3-for-4 with two RBI and eight different pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated Pacific Lutheran 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the win, the sagehens are now 9-14 on the season, while Pacific Lutheran sees its record slip to 13-8.

Pomona-Pitzer got all the offense it would need in the second inning with three runs, as Bruml, Kenny Rabin and Tanner Nishioka each had RBI singles to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead. Rabin added another RBI single in the third to stretch the lead to 4-0, but Pacific Lutheran was able to get a run in the fourth on a two-out RBI double from Bo Pearson and then another on a two-out error in the fifth.

Kevin Brice, though, tacked on an RBI single in the seventh and Simon Rosenbaum and Jake Bruml each added RBI doubles in the eighth to make the score 7-2.

The pitching staff did the rest of the work, as Mark Okuma started and went two strong innings, and Lane Miles threw an effective third to get the win. David Gerics, Drew Helgren, Jake Dorfman, Casey Hershfield, Coleman Lukas and Kevin Kannappan each threw individual innings the rest of the way.

E.J. Lopez was 2-for-4, while Nishioka, Rosenbaum and Rabin were each 2-for-5 for the Sagehens. Pearson finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bearcats.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action this weekend for a three-game series with La Verne, including a road game on Friday and a home doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
