CLAREMONT, Ca. -- Four Sagehens earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletes Of The Week with sophomore Madison Quan, sophomore Maria Lyven, junior Jed Kronenberg and sophomore Lucie Abele all earning the award as announced by the league office.
Quan helped Pomona-Pitzer to a 1-1 week in SCIAC play that featured a 72-65 win over Redlands and a 82-71 loss to Claremont-MuddScripps (CMS). Quan averaged 28.5 points per game, including a 38-point effort against the Bulldogs, as she shot 57.1% from the field and 70% from three-point range. She also hit on 18-of-19 from the free throw line (94.7%) and contributed 10 assists (five in each game), and six steals (three in each contest) to go along with six boards.
Lyven helped lift Pomona-Pitzer to a 4-0 win over Cal State LA and a 9-0 sweep of SCIAC foe Whittier on Saturday. Lyven earned a 6-3 win in doubles with teammate Jay Kim and a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Lyven came back with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles with Kim and then a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against the Poets.
Kronenberg helped Pomona-Pitzer secure a pair of SCIAC wins on Saturday as the Sagehens defeated Occidental and Whittier, 9-0 each. Kronenberg started with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles with teammate Nils Skattum and went on to win his singles match 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against the Tigers. Against the Poets, he won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3 and also at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Abele helped Pomona-Pitzer to a 1-3 week that featured a hard-fought 14-12 win over Villanova, and losses to UCLA (21-2), UC Davis (14-8) and Santa Clara (10-6). Abele, who finished the four-game stretch with 10 total goals, had hat-tricks against UC Davis and Villanova with four against UC Davis and three against Villanova. She tallied two goals in the game against Santa Clara and one against UCLA.
