Women's Cross Country: Sagehens Cross In Second At UC Riverside Invite

RIVERSIDE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Program continued their strong start to the season with a second-place finish at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning. The team scored 87 points in the 5K race, with Helen Guo scoring the lowest among the Sagehens with a seventh-place finish at 17:26.1. The team posted a total time of 1:31.02, the fastest 5,000m team time in program history, breaking their previous best of 1:33.42 from 2016 at the same meet. This race also marked the first time in program history that the Sagehens had their top-five women finish under 19:00 in a 5K event.

"We ran well for a meet we were training through," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "We showed some toughness and grit, and each team member raced very strongly. There are still some details we need to improve upon: pre-race routines, mental approaches, and continued focus and concentration throughout the duration of the race, but this is a tremendous start to the season. This shows us that we can be a very good team if we continue to focus on the team, and how each of us contribute to the overall team success."

Finishing behind Guo, first year Lila Cardillo took ninth overall at 17:40.3 while her classmate Genevieve DiBari finished in 22nd after clocking in at 18:23.5. Another first year, Madison Ellis, crossed in 29th with a time of 18:37.9 and Madeleine Mount-Cors finished in 40th at 18:54.8.
