Volleyball Concludes Season With 3-0 Loss To Cal Lutheran
Claremont, Calif. - After a slow start, the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team battled SCIAC-leading Cal Lutheran evenly over the final two sets before falling 3-0 in its season finale on Tuesday evening at the Rains Center.
Cal Lutheran improves to 25-5 overall and 13-1 in the SCIAC with the win, while the Sagehens end their season at 7-19 overall and 5-9 in the SCIAC. Set scores were 25-12, 25-21 and 25-22.
Jordan Hammond (Tulsa, Okla. - pictured) led Pomona-Pitzer in kills in her final collegiate match with nine, while Heidi Leonard (Del Mar, Calif.) led the Sagehens in digs with 19 to finish her career with 1,896, a new school record. Hammond, Leonard, Kenzie Aries (Escondido, Calif.) and Carolyn Hite (Buffalo, N.Y.) were honored before the match as part of Senior Day.
Cal Lutheran was led by the one-two punch of freshman Kylie McLogan, who had 15 kills in 34 attempts, and junior Rachel Smith, who had 12 kills in 27 attempts. McLogan got the Regals started in the first set with seven kills (in 12 attempts), while Smith took over in the second set with seven kills (also in 12 attempts). Junior setter Jackie Russell had 35 assists for the Regals as well.
Freshman Kirea Mazzolini (Phoenix, Ariz.) had a solid effort for the Sagehens, finishing with six kills (and one error in 11 attempts), while freshman setter Dani Kritter (Culpepper, Va.) had 14 assists and 12 digs. Junior middle Rachel Bollens (Seattle, Wash.) was strong defensively with six blocks (two solo, four assisted).
