The Sagehens come into tonight's match with a 3-3 record in the SCIAC, one-half game behind La Verne (3-2), which is in fourth place. Cal Lutheran leads with a perfect 6-0 record, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Occidental are both 4-2.

The top four finishers receive invites to the SCIAC Tournament, which puts this evening's winner in strong position to earn a postseason bid at the midway point of the conference schedule.

The Sagehens improved their position in the league by winning two of three matches last week, falling only to Cal Lutheran on the road. They picked up a key 3-1 road win over Redlands last Tuesday after dropping the first set, and then had little trouble with Caltech at home, earning a 3-0 win over Beavers.

Freshman Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif.) had a strong week for the Sagehens, tallying 17 kills and 18 digs at Redlands, picking up five kills in seven attempts against Caltech and ending with nine kills at Cal Lutheran. Senior Jordan Hammond (Tulsa, Okla.) had a team-high 12 kills against Cal Lutheran, while senior Carolyn Hite (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a strong performance with nine kills in 17 attempts.

Yamasaki currently leads Pomona-Pitzer with 171 kills, while senior setter Kenize Aries (Escondido, Calif.) is first in assists with 347. Senior libero Heidi Leonard (Sel Mar, Calif.) is tops in digs with 308, while junior Rachel Bollens (Seattle, Wash. - pictured) leads with 46 blocks.

After tonight's contest, the Sagehens play their next three on the road, including conference matches at Occidental and CMS.
