No. 15 Cal Lutheran Fights Off Sagehens

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Senior Jordan Hammond (Tulsa, Okla. - pictured) had 12 kills and senior Carly Hite (Buffalo, N.Y.) had nine kills in 17 attempts, but the 15th-ranked Cal Lutheran Volleyball team was able to earn a 3-0 win over the Sagehens on Saturday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-20 and 20-16 as the Regals earned the hard-fought sweep. With the win, Cal Lutheran improves to 13-4 overall and 6-0 in the SCIAC while extending its regular season SCIAC win streak to 26, dating back to 2009. Pomona-Pitzer slips to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Cal Lutheran had a balanced offensive attack, led by Rachel Smith (11-0-24) and Casy McWhirk (10-2-22). Kylie McLogan had a match-high 13 kills (but had seven errors). Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif.) added nine kills for the Sagehens, while senior libero Heidi Leonard (Del Mar, Calif.) had 16 digs and senior setter Kenize Aries (Escondido, Calif.) had 28 assists.

The Sagehens hit .308 in the first set as they battled down to the final few points against the Regals, who hit .385 in the first set.

The Sagehens return to action when they host La Verne on Tuesday evening at the Rains Center.
