LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 1-0 on Wednesday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in SCIAC play while Occidental drops to 5-4-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Lily Gane who scored the only goal of the night and now has four goals in her last four games. Sophomore Bria VarnBuhler chipped in with an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Isa Berardo earned her fifth win of the season as she tallied five saves in the win.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped ahead in the first half as Gane scored a goal off of an assist from VarnBuhler to take a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
After taking a lead midway through the first half, the Sagehens held on to take their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Sagehens played excellent defense against the Tigers as they limited Occidental's offensive scoring chances and tallied their sixth shutout as a defense. Pomona-Pitzer only took two shots in the second half but limited the Tigers to just two shots on goal as the Sagehens held on for the road win.
