Sagehens Pick Up Tenth Win, Defeat North Central 13-8

Claremont, Calif. - Jana London, Sarah Markowitz and Ally McLaughlin had three goals apiece to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over North Central on Thursday evening in its final non-conference game of the year.

With the win, the Sagehens move to 10-3 on the season, reaching the 10-win plateau before reaching the second half of SCIAC play. North Central falls to 1-3 on the year with the loss, after also falling to Whittier and Occidental on its California trip.

McLaughlin (pictured) added nine ground balls for the Sagehens, as well as an assist, three caused turnovers and three draw controls in a strong all-around effort. London had two assists, while Kaitlin Jones had two goals and an assist.

The Sagehens were never really threatened as five different players scored the game's first five goals in the opening 10:40. McLaughlin scored off a Katie Savino feed 39 seconds in on the first possession of the game, and Markowitz, Hannah Christenson, London and Jones all followed with goals to make the score 5-0.

Pomona-Pitzer built its lead up to 11-4 at the half after London fed Jones for a goal with 11 seconds on the clock. McLaughlin scored her third off a London pass with 15:24 left to make the score 13-5, and North Central scored the game's final three goals to close the gap in the final score.

Rachel Houp finished with a game-high five goals for the Cardinals, while Sandy Stasaitis had six of her eight saves after halftime. Gaby Fukumura had a quiet day with three saves for the Sagehens, as the Pomona-Pitzer defense kept the Cardinals away from goal for most of the contest, finishing with a 27-12 edge in shots.

The Sagehens ended with a 7-1 record in March in eight non-conference games, with the only loss 13-10 to undefeated Allegheny on March 21. Pomona-Pitzer will now return to SCIAC play next Saturday, with a road game at CMS beginning at 1 p.m.
