London (Eight Goals) Leads Sagehens Past Carthage
Claremont, Calif. - Senior Jana London scored eight goals and freshman Hannah Christenson (pictured) added four to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team to an 18-7 win over Carthage on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-3 on the season, while Carthage sees its record slip to 4-3 with the loss.
London had five of her goals in the first half to help stake the Sagehens to a 10-3 lead. It was close early as Lauren Chatham scored her second goal to bring the Lady Reds within 4-2 at the 17:54 mark following back to back London goals. However, five different players scored in a 6-0 Sagehen run to push the lead all the way up to 10-2 with 9:01 left in the half.
Sarah Markowitz started the run with an unassisted goal at the 16:07 mark, sprinting in from 40 yards out after a foul. Katie Savino was fouled off the draw control and did the same thing, sprinting in from over midfielder for a goal, and then London won the next draw control and ran in for another one 12 seconds later to give Pomona-Pitzer three goals in a span 44 seconds. Aubrey Douglass, London, and Christenson capped off the 6-0 run, before Chatham scored her third to make the score 10-3 at the break.
Kaitlin Jones and Douglass started the second half with goals for the Sagehens, who were able to get the lead up to double figures and coast for the win.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action tomorrow for another non-league game against North Central, beginning at 7 p.m.
