Sagehens Fall To Redlands In Sudden Death Overtime

Claremont, Calif. - Senior midfielder Kaitlin Jones (#14) tied the score with 6.9 seconds left in regulation on a free position shot (pictured), but Stephanie Garrett scored 35 seconds into sudden death as the Redlands Women's Lacrosse team earned a 12-11 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the South Athletic Complex.

With the loss, the Sagehens slip to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC, with both losses coming in overtime. Redlands improves to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in conference.

Redlands won the draw control to start the sudden death extra session, and Jacky Craycraft cut up the middle and missed wide. The Bulldogs had the back of the net covered to maintain possession, and Garrett got the ball on the right wing, cut back to the middle and got a clean look from in front of the cage, beating Pomona-Pitzer goalie Gaby Fukumura for the game-winner.

Fukumura helped the Sagehens get to sudden death by stopping two shots in the final 20 seconds of the first overtime from Kk McCaslin, with the second coming in tight off a rebound. Pomona-Pitzer had led 11-10 after the first extra session on a goal from sophomore midfielder Ally McLaughlin, but after the teams switched ends, Pomona-Pitzer hit the post after winning the opening draw control, and Craycraft was able to tie the game.

Senior attacker Jana London had a go-ahead shot saved with less than a minute left in the first extra session, and McCaslin had two chances after the clear, but Fukumura stopped both.

London finished with four goals to lead the Sagehens, while Jones and McLaughlin each had two. Garrett had four goals and an assist for Redlands and Craycraft added three. Gigja Hollyday had nine saves for Redlands.
