Sagehens Win Third Straight, Capture 16-11 Win Over Whittier
Claremont, Calif. - Junior Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Alexa Sarussi (Scottsdale, Ariz. - pictured, photo by Bryan Matsumoto) scored four goals apiece as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team won its third straight by defeating Whittier 16-11 on Saturday.
Senior Emma Molloy (Basking Ridge, N.J.)added two goals and four assists for the Sagehens, who improve to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC with the win. Whittier slips to 0-5 overall and in conference with the loss.
After the Sagehens took a 9-5 lead into halftime, London had three of her goals in a decisive 4-0 run early in the second half, which turned a 10-6 lead into a commanding 14-6 advantage. She scored two of her goals 13 seconds apart to make the score 13-6 with 25:43 to play.
London then scored her third goal in a row at the 23:02 mark to cap off the run. After Whittier pulled within 14-7, freshman Aubrey Douglass (Piedmont, Calif.) and junior Logan Galansky (Denver, Colo.) scored back-to-back goals to make the score 16-7, before Whittier closed out with the final four goals of the game.
Freshman Ally McLaughlin (Wynnewood, Pa.) had five caused turnovers for the Sagehens, who forced 24 Whittier turnovers on the day, and held the Poets to only 11 clears in 18 attempts.
Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on March 4, when it hosts Susquehanna for a 7 p.m. game at Merritt Field.
