Second Half Run Propels Chapman To Opening Win Over Sagehens

Claremont, Calif. - The Chapman Women's Lacrosse team used a 6-0 run in the second half to take control and capture an 11-8 win over Pomona-Pitzer in the season opener for both teams on Satirday afternoon at the South Atlantic Complex.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by three goals from junior midfielder Logan Galansky (Denver, Colo. - pictured, photo by Bryan Matsumoto) in the losing effort.

After the Sagehens took a 6-4 lead into halftime, Galansky opened the second half with a quick goal to make the score 7-4. However, Chapman then scored the game's next six goals, from six different goal scorers, to take a 10-7 lead with 10:06 left.

Galansky answered with a goal to cut the lead to 10-8 with 7:41 left, but Hayden Stein responded with her third for Chapman and the Panthers were able to kill off the clock.
Chapman had a 15-6 edge on draw controls, and used a swarming defense to hold Pomona-Pitzer to only 11 clears in 23 attempts.

Junior attacker Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md.) added two goals for the Sagehens, while senior goalie Casey Leek (Bucharest, Romania) had 11 saves in goal.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
