The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Tennis Team closed out the spring break with a big 6-3 victory over No. 12 University of the South (Sewanee) on Saturday afternoon. This marked their fifth victory over an ITA Top-15 program this season as the Sagehens saw strong performances by Maryann Zhao and Shivani Doraiswami put them ahead of the Tigers.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Lacrosse Team survived a tight contest against visiting Wooster College, edging out the Fighting Scots 9-8. The Sagehens led for majority of the match, but victory was never certain as Wooster managed to keep the game within reach. Sophia Silane and Lilly Thomey each had a hat trick, combining for five free position goals.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Lacrosse throttled Beloit College on Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Bucceneers 21-1. It was the second time the Sagehens scored past the 20-point mark and their largest margin victory this season. 10 different Sagehens found the back of the net as Sophie Hubbell led the team in production, scoring three goals and nabbing four assists.
The Pomona-Pitzer Men’s Tennis team closed out the Stag-Hen Invitational with a lopsided 8-1 victory over Trinity University (Tx.) on Tuesday afternoon. The Sagehens had no problem taking down the Tigers, dropping only one doubles match while sweeping through the singles.
The No.6 Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Tennis program were in high spirits on Tuesday afternoon, breaking out with a lopsided 8-1 victory over No. 5 Bowdoin. The Sagehens cruised through doubles, sweeping all three matches, and later controlled singles by winning all but one.
The No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Tennis team prevailed through a tight 5-4 victory over No. 11 Amherst on Tuesday afternoon. After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Sagehens rallied back in the singles, securing four victories to win the match.
The Pomona-Pitzer Men’s Track and Field prevailed through the wet conditions at the Occidental Distance Carnival, managing to put up strong results against athletes from Division I, II, III, NAIA, and junior colleges on Saturday evening. The distance runners shone for the Sagehens as the program saw three runners finish in the top-50 in the 5000 Meter Run.
The Pomona-Pitzer Softball program earned it’s first SCIAC sweep on Saturday afternoon, beating Whittier College 5-3 and 5-2, respectively. Liz Rodarte hit two home runs during the doubleheader and leads the SCIAC with six dingers while the Sagehens offense capitalized on huge run-scoring opportunities to swing the tides in their favor.
Helen Guo made her mark in the record books for the Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Track and Field program, posting the third-fastest mark in Sagehens’ history in the 5000 Meter Run at the Occidental Distance Carnival on Saturday night.
The Pomona-Pitzer Softball Team split their doubleheader against Piedmont on Friday evening, riding a no-hitter performance by Liz Rodarte for a 3-0 victory before falling 5-0 in the second match. It was the second career no-hitter for the senior as Rodarte fanned 13 batters with no walks for her fourth win of the season.
